⊙“Cold call”是什么意思？⊙
Cold call 直接翻译意思为“冷电话”，但其实是指推销人员给潜在客户所拨打的“推销电话”。拨打推销电话，可以用make a cold call 或是 cold-call someone（注意当作动词使用时，中间需要加连字符）。
▶On average, it takes 18 cold calls to make a single sale.
平均而言，每 18 通推销电话才会遇到一名买家。

1. Introduce (v.) 介绍
Introduce 为动词，意思是“介绍”，如 introduce oneself就是“自我介绍”。
▶The salesperson spent three minutes introducing his new product.
推销员花了三分钟介绍他的新产品。
“Introduce somebody to something”，意为“让某人首次接触某事物”。
▶My Spanish friend introduced me to the joys of jamón.
我的西班牙朋友让我初尝生火腿的美味。
2. Potential customer (n.) 潜在客户
Potential 为形容词，意思是“潜在的”，customer 则是名词，指“客户；客人”。另外一个常见的 customer 搭配用语是 regular customer，也就是“熟客；老客户”。
▶The clerk in the department store targeted me as a potential customer and approached me.
推销员锁定我为潜在客户，并向我走近。
3.hit on (phr.) 搭讪
别误会了，hit on 可不是“打”的意思，它指的其实是“搭讪某人”。
▶My friend found the guy who was hitting on her very annoying.
我朋友觉得一直搭讪她的那个男人很令人厌烦。
4.be close (phr.) 和……很熟
Close 在这里的意思并非“距离上的近”，而是指“关系上的近”。be close to somebody 指的是“与某人很熟”。
▶We’ve been very close since high school.
我们从高中开始就很熟了。
